The Market is Open!

Foothills Market is open!

In case it has slipped up on you, next Sunday is Father’s Day. If you’re stuck for an idea about a gift that doesn’t involve going into a crowded store, Foothills Market is here for you! We have a variety of baked goods that the man in your life might enjoy. We have the regular fruit breads that would make a good addition to a Father’s Day brunch, but this week we also have specialty cookies made and decorated by Lily from Happy Horseshoe Farm. These sugar cookies will have homemade Royal Icing with one of two dad-related designs, a mustache or a bowtie. If you’d like to treat Dad to a little something for his sweet tooth, check out these cookies.

Shop the market between now and Wednesday at 5 p.m., fill your cart, and click the “Place your order” button. We’ll have your order ready for pick-up between 4:30-5:30 p.m. on Thursday.

One important change this week – we are going to set up on the east side of the courthouse square to take advantage of the shade on that side as the weather gets hotter. I’ll remind you of this on Thursday when it’s time to pickup your order.

Good news! Sheepy Hollow has added new listings for lamb to Foothills Market this week. Kim said they have ground lamb and lot of leg of lamb, as well as other cuts.

We are also starting to see more and more different types of vegetables on the market as the season transitions into summer.

We’re happy to say the Food for Thought Garden from the University of the Ozarks is back online after some weeks away during the shutdown for COVID-19. We also have several new vendors this week: Imagery by DenaC with custom photographs, and two new baked good vendors: Dixie Lining Farmhouse and Nick’s Sourdough Bread.

The Market is Open!

Foothills Market is open for another week of providing you with options for fresh, locally-grown food!

If you notice that quantities of certain items (like the meats) are lower than in the past, it’s because our growers are beginning to run out of supplies. Unlike grocery stores, we don’t have a (seemingly) endless supply of product that is refilled each week from a distributor. Our products come directly from our fields and barns, and when they are gone from the market, they are gone until we can raise more. In the case of the meats, there is an additional factor to consider – we have to make an appointment with a USDA-inspected facility to process the meat before we can put it up for sale. Currently, no appointments are available because the processors are booked into 2021. Yes, next year! Growers were able to snag an appointment or two for the remainder of this year, and when more meat is available on the market, we will be sure to let everyone know.

For the time being, we still do have offerings of meat, and Sheepy Hollow is expecting to add more lamb soon. Our offerings of vegetables are also starting to pick up, both in number and variety. Looks like a good time to add more vegetables to your menu!

(I’m not trying to induce panic-buying; buy what you need, but leave some for others. Let’s take care of each other in our community.)

Browse the market between now and 5:00 p.m. Wednesday. Fill your cart, and be sure to press the “Place your order” button to complete the ordering process. We’ll have your order ready for pickup on Thursday between 4:30-5:30 p.m.

Foothills Market is open for another week of shopping!

Unfortunately, I got word from Hummingbird Farms that there won’t be strawberries this week – the wet weather at the end of last week wiped them out. But we do have other vegetables that loved the rain and these warmer temperatures that are following.

Browse the market between now and Wednesday afternoon. Fill your cart and click the “Place your order” button before Wednesday at 5 p.m. We’ll pull your order together and have it ready for pickup between 4:30-5:30 p.m. on Thursday at the Johnson County courthouse.

Be sure to check the listings throughout the week since growers may adjust the products based on what’s going on in the garden.

There’s still time to shop Foothills Market! I checked the market listings, and we still have meat and salad mix, if you’re looking for a quick start for dinner one night this week.

The market will close at 5:00 p.m. today with pickup tomorrow from 4:30-5:30 p.m. at the courthouse square.

What an odd spring – three May nights in a row with 40-degree temperatures. But at least we are not getting a Mothers’ Day snowstorm!

Even with the cooler nights, we’re starting to have a little more variety in the offerings on Foothills Market. You’ll find radishes, turnips, and greens, along with the meat offerings.

Browse the market and fill your cart between now and Wednesday at 5 p.m. Check at different times during the week, since growers may update their offerings based on what’s happening on the farm. Be sure to click the “Place my order” button when you are ready to order. We’ll have your order ready for pickup on Thursday afternoon between 4:30-5:30 at the Johnson County courthouse.
