It’s another gloomy Sunday afternoon, but Foothills Market is bringing some cheer to your day with fresh, local food.

The Market is Open!

This is the time of winter when I get the blahs. The weather tends to be gray and chilly, and people all around seem to be coming down with something – flu or a cold or just what I call the yucks.

Maybe Foothills Market can help in a small way. If you’re feeling a little under the weather, maybe a hot soup made with some pork bones or beef oso bucco will warm you. If your throat is a little raw from a cold, maybe you could use the old-timers’ remedy – a spoonful of honey and a cup of lemongrass tea (Ok, old-timers probably didn’t use lemongrass….). Another old-time solution to the winter blahs was a “mess” of greens, and we’ve got turnip or mustard greens to pair with some hog jowl to chase away the blahs. Or maybe you just treat yourself to some cookies or peanut brittle and wait it out.

Shop the market between now and Wednesday at 5:00 p.m. We’ll have your order ready for pickup on Thursday from 5-5:30 p.m.

The Market is Open!

In case you haven’t noticed, this Friday is Valentine’s Day. Foothills Market is not going to go as crazy with Valentine-themed merchandise as the big box stores have, but we do have the makings for a perfect dinner with your valentine! We have several options if you’d like a steak dinner, ranging from Ribeye (bone-in or boneless) to Porterhouse to New York Strip. Pair the steak with a fresh, local salad and some home-baked sourdough rolls and top off with a couple of Death by Chocolate cookies to treat your valentine (and yourself!).

Not in the mood for steak? Maybe you would prefer pork chops, pan-fried and matched with wilted Swiss chard. Or maybe you are more of a fan of barbeque ribs with a side salad and a cornmeal muffin.

Maybe you’re just hungry for a good love story. EMZ-Piney Publishing has three novels set in the early years of Arkansas Territory that the author describes as “love stories blended with history.”

Whatever your taste, you’re sure to find something special. Shop the market between now and 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. We’ll have your order ready for pickup on Thursday from 5-5:30 p.m., just in time for Valentine’s Day!

Foothills Market is open for ordering this week.

We’ve hit that point in the season when the supply of fresh vegetables is limited (although we have plenty of lettuce and local meats). This week, we’ll feature one of our other categories on the market, the jams, jellies, and sweet spreads. We have four different vendors offering a variety of home-prepared goodies under the Arkansas Cottage Law. You can find traditional favorites like blackberry or grape jelly or peach jam. If you’re looking for something a little different, maybe you’d like to try crab apple jelly or lemon marmalade. We also offer a Blueberry Mojito Jam that blends the flavors of blueberry and lime – no alcohol, though! Maybe you are trying to limit the amount of sugar you take in. We also have a few lower-sugar options, such as peach, blueberry, and muscadine. These products are all made with local fruits in our farmers’ home kitchens, just like the ones our grandmothers used to make. Of course, there’s always honey if you’re looking for a completely natural option.

Pick up a jar of your favorite from the market to spread on your favorite toast or maybe one of the homemade baked goods from Foothills Market. Remember to place your order between now and 5:00 p.m. Wednesday. We’ll have your order ready for pickup on Thursday from 5:00-5:30 p.m.
