The Market is Open!

It’s time for another week of shopping local with Foothills Market!

We are probably going to shift the market pickup site this week to the front of the courthouse so we can take advantage of the shade from the wonderful big oak trees.

Browse through the market listings. To order an item, enter the amount you want in the box, then click the little shopping cart beside the box to add the item to your cart. You’ll be able to see what’s in your cart and the total amount in the upper left column. Once you are finished shopping, click the “Place your order” button below the cart listing – that’s an important step! If you don’t click that button, the website won’t process your order.

Shop between now and Wednesday at 5:00* p.m*. We’ll have your order ready for pickup in front of the courthouse between* 4:30-5:30 Thursday*.

Eat something fresh this week!

Market Reminder

We still have a couple of hours of shopping time left for this week’s Foothills Market! The market will close today at 5 p.m.

The Market is Open!

Foothills Market is open for another week of providing you with fresh, local produce and meats!

We’re edging closer to the time when our growers will have a variety of spring vegetables, although this past week’s frost may have slowed things a bit.

Browse our offerings of beef, lamb, and pork (if you are a meat-eater) to find the foundation for a meal, then add some salad or greens to round out your plate (or be the star, if you don’t eat meat). Be sure to click the “Place your order” button so you order is recorded in the system. You can place more than one order in a week, so if you want to check back on Tuesday or Wednesday after ordering on Sunday, you may find some new items growers have added since the market opened today. Your final order needs to be placed before Wednesday at 5 p.m., when the market closes.

We’ll have your order ready for pickup on Thursday from 4:30-5:30 p.m. at the west side of the county courthouse in downtown Clarksville.

Foothills Market is open for the week!

Last week, we said we would be setting up an online payment option. However, in investigating our options, we found that the cost was going to be (in our opinion) too high. Fees charged by the online payment service companies would make it so we would need to add a convenience fee to each online payment. That fee would need to be at least 8% and could possibly be as high as 10% (because the service companies charge a percentage of the sale plus a flat 30-cent fee), and we just don’t feel good about adding that to your cost. So we are abandoning the idea of online payment for the time being.

Instead, we are asking you to pay for your orders with checks, if possible. That will help make the transaction work more quickly (no need to make change), which will help avoid a backlog when several people are waiting to pick up their orders. If you need to use cash, please bring exact change. If you don’t have exact change, we’ll credit the overpaid amount to your account here on Foothills Market so it can go to pay toward your next order.

When using a check, please make it payable to Jeff Marlow, since he’s the market treasurer and the bank won’t accept checks with a different name. Don’t be afraid that your farmer isn’t getting paid; Jeff gives each farmer a check when they drop off their items before the pick-up time for customers.

Browse the market and place your order between now and Wednesday at 5 p.m. Be sure to click the “Place your order” button. We’ll have your order ready for pickup between 4:30-5:30 on Thursday.

Remember to check back during the week since some farmers may update their listings after the market opens on Sunday.

Extended Hours for New Addition! Strawberries!

We’ve just added a new grower, Hummingbird Farms, to the Foothills Market, with fresh strawberries!

To give everyone a chance to get berries, we’re going to extend the closing deadline for the market today to be 6:30 p.m.

Although the berries are available by the individual quart, the farmer said he prefers to sell them by the flat (which is equal to 6 quarts). The price per quart is the same, regardless of whether you buy a single quart ($5) or a flat ($30).

Welcome, Hummingbird Farms!

Market Reminder

Foothills Market will be open for another couple of hours, so you still have time to place an order. Order by 5 p.m., and we’ll have your order ready for pickup tomorrow between 4:30-5:30 p.m. on the west side of the courthouse square.

The Market is Open!

Sorry for the delay in opening Foothills Market this week. We’ve been talking about ways we can adjust what we do with the market to meet the best practices suggested by the Arkansas Farmers Market Association and the Coalition for Obesity Prevention.

To meet those guidelines, we are planning on implementing the following policies, starting with next week’s market:

  • We will have a drive-up market. There is no need for you to get out of your car; we will bring your order to you and place it in the car.
  • We will be setting up an online payment option for the market, and we encourage you to use it. To cover the cost of the online system, we will include a surcharge on your order (We are trying to decide what percentage that surcharge should be – we are thinking somewhere between 5-8%). Our farmers currently cover the cost of using the online market software as well as the sales tax for your order, so we are asking customers to cover this surcharge as a convenience cost. (This option may not be available until next week.)
  • For this week, we will be accepting only checks or exact change as payment. If you pay with more cash than your order costs, the amount over your order will be applied to your account as a balance you can use on future orders. Checks need to be made payable to Jeff Marlow, since he is the treasurer for the market and the bank won’t accept checks made out to Foothills Market.

These times are challenging, but we are glad to still be available as an option for providing fresh, local food. We want to do everything we can to protect the health of our community.

Browse the market between now and 5 p.m. on Wednesday, make your selections, and press the “Place your order” button. We’ll have the order ready for pickup between 4:30-5:30 p.m. on Thursday on the west side of the courthouse square in downtown Clarksville.

Stay well, and eat something fresh this week!
