The Market is Open!

In her book Animal, Vegetable, Miracle, Barbara Kingsolver refers to “hungry month” – the time of the year when there isn’t much fresh food growing and when storage crops are starting to run low. It seems we are in “hungry month” for Foothills Market.

We still have limited amounts of fresh greens grown under cover, and there are a few butternut squash. Thanks to our freezers, we have beef available, and there is still a good selection of jams and jellies that were canned last summer and fall.

Browse the market to see what local items you can add to your menu this week. Place your order by 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, and we’ll have your order ready for pickup on Thursday.

It may be “hungry month,” but you can still find something to eat local!

We hope you are enjoying this sunshine today! Our Foothills Market growers are looking at the sun and dreaming of the time when we can start our spring planting. The time is coming soon to start those brassicas for transplanting in a couple of months, to get another growing season underway.

Until then, browse the market for our fresh, local offerings. Place your order between now and Wednesday at 5:00 p.m., and we’ll have your order ready for pickup Thursday afternoon.

Market Reminder

Foothills Market is open for another hour and a half. Remember that this is the last market until after Christmas. We still have fresh vegetables, including leaf lettuce and salad mix from the aquaponics house.

Looking for a Christmas gift? How about some local honey or sorghum or an assortment of homemade jams? Or maybe you know someone who would appreciate a gift certificate for fresh, local produce throughout the new year. Send us an email with the name of the recipient and a dollar amount, and we will make up a certificate for you to pick up tomorrow.

Looks like we’re getting ready to dive back into some colder weather just in time for Christmas. Foothills Market has fresh, local ingredients you can put into a nice, hot soup, whether you prefer vegetable-beef, butternut, or potato. You might even want to try collards with ham or smoked sausage, with its delicious “pot likker.”

Browse the market between now and Wednesday at 5:00 p.m. Fill your cart and be sure to click the “Place your Order” button to finalize the order. We’ll have your items ready for pickup on Thursday.

As a heads-up, we won’t have a market on December 22, so you may want to stock up this week!
